The Tools That Keep Us Sane

At Fat Baby Marketing, we believe in bold ideas, smart strategy, and just enough calm to keep the creativity from burning out. Yes, all three can coexist—even if you're juggling a launch plan, children's dance classes, and a to-do list that feels like it’s plotting against you.

The month of May is dedicated to Mental Health Awareness, so we’re putting down our phones (just for a minute) to celebrate the tools that help us stay grounded, organized, and kind of crushing it—even on the days when our first sip of a breakfast smoothie is no longer cold.

These are the tools we swear by to keep our lives in motion without losing our minds.

online calendar + tasks: our brain outside our brain

Here’s the truth: if it’s not on the Calendar, it doesn’t exist.

We live by this sacred rule. The second we remember something—book the dentist, check that email, don’t forget the costume for Spirit Day—it gets dropped straight into our calendar as a task, paired with a deadline and a quick pep talk to our future selves.

We even schedule reminders to take our vitamins. Yes, vitamins. Because let’s be honest, taking care of ourselves is usually the first thing to go when things get busy—and ironically, it’s the one thing that helps us keep it all together.

Pro tip:  Create recurring tasks for the stuff you always forget. Like “slow down and breathe” or “drink water.” You deserve hydration and boundaries, friend.

the calm app: because hustle and healing can coexist

The Calm app is our not-so-secret weapon when it’s time to shift gears from marketing maven to peaceful powerhouse.

From ten-minute meditations between meetings to sleep stories that lull us out of overthinking mode and into actual rest, this app has become a trusted companion in our self-care toolkit. And yes, sometimes we listen to bedtime stories meant for children. (No judgment—we find The Velveteen Rabbit strangely therapeutic.)

Balance isn't just a buzzword here. It’s a practice. A choice. A daily commitment to slowing down, tuning in, and remembering that productivity is only powerful when it's paired with presence.

target drive up: the MVP of mental load management

Nothing says "I've got this" like pulling into a Target parking lot, popping the trunk, and getting everything from almond milk to poster board delivered to your car in under five minutes without ever unbuckling a car seat.

Target Drive Up is a life-saver for busy days when going inside feels like climbing a mountain.  Whether you're picking up last minute snacks for school or avoiding the Dollar Spot to protect your budget, this app-based miracle is peak modern convenience.  And it makes you feel like you have your life together even if you're wearing slippers and answering Slack messages from the driver's seat.

digital well-being apps: boundaries made easy (and automatic)

Sometimes the healthiest thing we can do is put the phone down but that's easier said than done when your thumb has muscle memory for Instagram.

That’s where apps like Digital Wellbeing (Android) or Screen Time (iOS) come in. These little life-savers automatically shut down your social media apps (or any apps you choose) after a set amount of time. No guilt. No overthinking. Just a gentle “That’s enough, friend” when you hit your limit.

Bonus: You can override it… but only if you really want to.

Spoiler alert: sometimes we really want to. But most of the time, we don’t.

the mcdonald's app: because sanity sometimes costs $1

Let’s keep it real: some days, balance is not a superfood bowl—it’s a large Diet Coke and large fry in the car before your next meeting.

The unsung hero of “I didn’t pack lunch,” “I forgot to eat,” or “I just need a salty reward for getting through the day.”

We love it for its convenience, we really love it for the price, and honestly? We love anything that keeps us from spiraling into hanger-fueled chaos. It's not fancy. It's not curated. But it is a form of self-care, and we’re not afraid to say it.

you don't have to do it all

Showing up, lifting others, and trying to figure out how to make room for both ambition and rest is a lot. Whether you’re leading a team, a family, or just your own beautiful life, you deserve tools that support your sanity.

Say yes to the little things that help you breathe easier:

  • Schedule you time.
  • Hit play on a meditation.
  • Let an app put your phone in timeout.
  • Pop your trunk for curbside pickup.
  • Order the fries.

And remind yourself that balance isn’t a destination—it’s a rhythm we create with a little help from the right tools. Taking care of yourself is a power move; not a luxury.
